Here is an example of a local physician who knows how important it is to support his colleagues and his patients in the fight against cancer. We are truly thankful for his continued support!
Dr. Clyde Hourtovenko is a Sudbury-based Physician who was initially challenged by some colleagues at Health Sciences North (HSN) to support the annual moustache-growing challenge, commonly known as “Movember”. Although growing a mustache was not something that he was interested in doing, with the challenge of colleagues he agreed.
On Nov 1, 2013 the growth began. He was determined to raise funds to support prostate cancer research at HSN, leaving a donation sign in sheet and box in the Catheter lab, Cardiopulmonary department, Stepdown unit and Cardiology 8th floor. He also sought the support of his patients and staff at Riverside Cardiac Clinic.
Dr. Hourtevenko had a personal reason to take on this challenge too: his dad had prostate cancer. Cancer had also taken the lives of his mom and mother-in-law and numerous friends and patients over the years. As a healthcare provider he felt that the cause was an important way to give back and support those around him to do the same.
His goal was to match all donations and he did just that. At the end of the month his total donation to the Northern Cancer Foundation was $822.00!
Way to go Dr. H! Thank you also to all of those who supported his efforts!
